Colin “Bulby” York began his musical career at the tender age of 14 years old. After school, Bulby would head straight to King Tubby’s Studio where he studied the workings of the engineer. At the completion of the regular day, he practiced the boards, imitating what he had seen. Roy Francis brought Bulby to his studio, Mixing Lab, when he was 16. There he perfected his skills under the mentorship of other top industry engineers. Steely & Cleevie, Sly & Robbie, Winston Riley (Techniques Records) and Junior Reid.
Engineers that propelled him into the record-breaking musician he is today include Stephen Stanley, Soljie Hamilton, Fatta Marshall, Junior Edwards, David Rowe and Geoffrey Chung. Not satisfied with engineering, Bulby studied every aspect of the studio. His credits include mixing, producing and writing.
2020 marks 30 years for Bulby. Just the beginning.
